![]() The family’s surname is “Cleaver.” A “cleaver” is a “heavy, broad-bladed knife or hatchet” that is used to “split or separate.” As an intransitive verb, the word “cleave” is defined as “to penetrate or pass through something, such as water or air.” One example of this would be coincidence, but as I dug deeper, I discovered much more. Recently, I came to realize that the creators of the show took painstaking measures to infuse it with a wealth of aquatic symbolism and mythological references. When I was a young kid, I used to watch reruns of the show quite often. ![]() I’m a big fan of the sitcom Leave it to Beaver (1957-63).
